8 large Golden Delicious apples
1/2 cup sugar
4 Tablespoons unsalted butter (1/2 stick)
1/2 c pine nuts or chopped walnuts
1/2 c sliced almonds
1/2 c white wine
2/3 c water
powdered sugar to garnish
Peel and core apples. Place 1 tablespoon sugar and 1/2 tablespoon butter in each cored apple. Butter a baking dish and combine pine nuts and almonds in the bottom of the dish. Place the apples on top of the nuts. Combine the wine and water and pour over apples. Bake in preheated oven 40-50 minutes, basting apples occasionally with juices.
Place baked apples on plate. Reduce juice in small saucepan until turns caramel color. Spoon Syrup along with nuts over apples. Sprinkle with powdered sugar and serve hot or warm.
